The world famous "Panama Hats" are made in Montecristi. Situated at the foot of a hill of the same name, this village lies a few minutes from the port of Manta. It has attractions such as La Pila, where craftsmen do carvings of various subjects and make reproductions of Pre-Columbian ceramic. In addition, their workshops display objects made of natural fibre, iron and straw.
